Tomorrow is NOT Promised
I watched the cutest yet thought-provoking movie last evening. Soul is the latest offering by Disney Pixar and is the story of a middle school music teacher who was waiting for his big life changing break. Because I don’t want to reveal too much from the movie, I will simply say the lesson I received from the movie was “Make the best of today, because tomorrow is NOT guaranteed.”
If you need to forgive someone, let something or someone go, clear something up, clean something up, visit someone, or just tell someone you love them DO it TODAY. If you need to take time for yourself, seek out a new career, a new boo or just a new pair of shoes, DO it TODAY.
When I was growing up my mother had china and stemware we rarely use because it was our “good china and stemware.” There was a couch in our formal living room with a plastic cover keeping it clean and I was not permitted to play in that section of the house. She had beautiful clothes she never got a chance to wear before her death, because she was saving them for special occasions. My mother came from very humble beginnings and lived through very rough financial times and Jim Crow, so I understand and respect the thinking of that era. However, I am asking you to make a small shift in that mindset and make the best of today and enjoy your life, because tomorrow is NOT guaranteed.
I am not suggesting you go out and do something irrational or irresponsible, you do have to take care of your business. I am asking that you take some time, set some bold goals for 2021 and enjoy your life. Is there a trip you want to take? Is there a new hobby you want to pursue? Is there a classes where you will learn a new skill? Do want to try a new hairstyle? How about a new recipe?
Activity for this month.
Make a quick list of 10 new things you want to try or do in 2021. Set those clear measurable intentions, make your vision board and plan your life.
To make your vision board gather
· old magazines or print photos from online
· glue or glue stick
· scissors
· poster board or an art canvas.
After you set your clear intentions, find images that represent those images TO YOU. There is no right or wrong way, this is your personal art project. If you are more tech savvy use Google slides or PowerPoint and gather your images from the internet.
If you need assistance with those visions, email me at thejazziediva@gmail.com and I will set up a one-on-one Zoom session with you. We can talk, sip tea (or wine) set intentions and create our boards together.
